so does anyone play this game? or even heard of it? it's definitely my favorite MMO on the face of the planet. well, i call it an MMO, but i don't really know if it qualifies as one. it's pretty much an RPG with a lobby. some of my friends compared it to Phantasy Star Online.
Lunia an online hack-n-slash where you play through stages much like you do in a console adventure game. depending on the type of stage it is, you can take up to a maximum of 15 people in your party. for normal storyline stages, it's limited to 4, and in side story raids it's 8-12 in a party. the action is faster-pased than in your typical MMO where you click on a monster and sit there watching yourself fight for 2 mins until one of you dies. it also has a life system. you get three lives per stage. if you lose them all, you can no longer continue fighting. oh and i also like how this game is game pad compatible. using a game pad makes it feel even more like a console game to me.
visual character customization is limited to "cash shop" items (not all "cash shop" items are bought from the cash shop. it's possible to get them as prizes from events or quests in game. you can also purchase true cash shop items off of other players using in game money). other than your equips, every knight looks the same, every mage looks the same, etc. but that is because they are actual characters in the actual story.
the story...i actually like Lunia's story. probably because it's not centered around a generic, random unnamed player like all other MMOs are. instead, the story follows royal wizard Dainn, mercenary Sieg, and Princess Eir in their travels all over the continent as they try to piece the mysteries of the land together and stop the evil races from prevailing. every episode stage has a comic book-like cut scene at the beginning and the end, which i think adds 10 points to the games charm.
one of the main reasons i like this game is that the developers actually try to keep everything balanced. whenever a new character is introduced, they are usually slightly overpowered, but that gets fixed in an update later after people have had time to get to know the character's strengths and weaknesses. they also do a lot to keep things fresh, such as adding new stages and stage features, and revamping old stages. they also make smaller changes that do a lot to help the game play.
i've been playing Lunia probably...a couple years now, with some months breaks scattered in between. that's the longest i've faithfully stayed with an online game. that, and the fact that this post is super long shows how much i appreciate this game, lol. so yeah. if you like MMOs and even if you don't, check this one out.
